According to WikiAnswers the word ‘children’ is used 1,802 times in the Bible (KJV); and it is the 11th most commonly used noun in Scripture.  Family has always been important to the Creator. In many passages, the word ‘children’ refers to family ties and historical accounts. God’s chosen people are called ‘the children of Israel’.

The people of God are referred to as ‘children.’ God in the Psalms, or in Jesus’ words, or in the Epistles is our Father and we are His children.

Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me.”

Luke 9:47

Jesus clearly wanted His disciples and we, His followers, to understand the connection between the word ‘children’ and His teachings.

Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.

Matthew 19:14

So…who is Jesus talking about…adults or children?  I think both.
