(this video is the full worship service; just the message from Pastor Doug, Advent One, can be found here.)
As Americans we are very blessed–“All men are created equal…endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights…Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” To preserve this truth we are bound to protect it even though how others pursue these rights might not match our value systems as Christians. Yet, we can reveal by how we act and what we say, that we have the answers. Here’s a key idea: Happiness needs renewing. Joy is always plugged in. So to pursue happiness and a permanent state of happiness becoming joy, we must live constantly being connected and charging. Jesus had the answer to that: He was in a constant state of deliberate joy. He lived a life here on earth to teach us that we can stay plugged in. Jesus lived a life that was OUTWARD. This sermon reveals the actions and words of an OUTWARD life of joy.
I am coming to you now. But I say these things while I am still in the world. I say them so that those you gave me can have the same joy that I have.” John 17:13 (NIVR)
