Outward: Dealing with Disgust

(sermon begins at 25:00)  Ephesians 4:17-5:2

Christ tells us we are salt, we are light. If we are to follow Him our goal is to look at the world like Jesus did, like He does. That’s becoming really hard for us. Our world looks pretty disgusting these days. Yes, we are being transformed into His likeness day by day. But our immediate reactions to some people, some situations in our world becomes a reflex–an uncontrollable response that is not anything like Christ’s response. How do we respond without disgust?  Paul teaches us to put off the old and putting on the new. It’s not magic – it requires our prayers, our efforts along with God’s power to change us. He asks: Are you ready to change? Will you try to see those who seem disgusting like Jesus does? Can you be my Son’s imitator? Here’s some helpful teaching that will help you begin.

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.  Ephesians 5:1-2
