Taking a new look at the Parable of the ‘Talents’. The Master gave His resources, His bag of talents, to each servant according to each one’s ability. What does that mean? God is looking at what we are doing already to serve Him with what He has given us in the past. It’s not about being frugal, or careful with our money. It’s not about deciding how to steward what we already have. It’s a story about what three people did with what God give them with the goal to grow what was given. The parable offers a true paradox: If you want to be care-full with the Master’s resources, His precious offerings to us, you must take a risk. Your goal is to risk all of it. And in the risking, you are trusting God to do the work. The risking begins with the praying.
The master answered, ‘You did well. You are a good servant who can be trusted. You did well with small things. So I will let you care for much greater things. Come and share my happiness with me.’
