Because You Say So

(Lent Testimonies and Prayers 22:45) (Message 37:00)
Matthew 7:24-27, Luke 5:1-11, James1:22-25

When Jesus first called His 12, He called them out of their way of life to a new way. When He calls us it’s about all buy in to His plans, His dreams for us, His purposes. They are what we have longed for but much more. They may completely change, but are much more. The goal is this: “Your purpose, not mine. Because You say so, I will do what You say. Because You want exactly what I need, what I want.”  He may speak an unequivocal command: “Forgive as I forgive.”  Or He may speak a personal change, an adjustment to our attitude or actions: “Be kinder, gentler, more thoughtful.”  Or He may speak a task, an assignment: “Be salt and light in speech and behavior…Pray faithfully.”  And so much more. And when you grow tired, weary, He says, “I’m here and I am not tired or weary, I’ll carry you along.”

But suppose someone takes a good look at the perfect law that gives freedom. And they keep looking at it. Suppose they don’t forget what they’ve heard, but they do what the law says. Then this person will be blessed in what they do.

James 1:25
