Greg has had a rich and varied experience in service to others. His previous pathways as a youth pastor, a senior pastor, a homeless shelter coordinator, a professor, and a social worker have given depth to his understanding of people’s needs and how God ministers to them. He has worked in church, hospital, and university settings. He and his wife Dawn have returned to what they love–pastoring a church.
Greg and his three siblings grew up in the Free Methodist Church when his parents joined a local FM church in Peoria, Illinois when Greg was just a toddler. His first calling to ministry came in his teen years when he was joined in Youth for Christ events.
I was led to the Lord through a one-to-one disciple relationship with a Youth For Christ worker on my high school campus. My growth in Christ became more serious during my college years. I had several defining experiences that led me to my call. Attending Asbury Seminary was the refining time that encouraged me into ministry with the Free Methodist Church.”G. Pennington, 2019
Dawn and Greg met while they both attended Trinity International University. He went on to get his degree at Greenville College, then his Master of Divinity at Asbury Seminary, his Master in Social Work at the University of Wisconsin, and his PHD in Counseling at Regent University. The two of them work as a team serving the Lord, our church, and supporting each other. They have been married for 36 years, have three children and four grandsons.
