Luke 11:1-13 and Matthew 6:9-15
This prayer that Christ gave to his disciples – ‘This is how you should you pray.’ teaches us much more than a prayer to memorize and repeat often. He taught us what prayer is. Prayer is connecting with, syncing with God. We begin with glorifying Him, seeking His way, His rule.
What does Christ mean by ‘give us our daily bread’? It is much more than asking for food or anything we need daily in our lives. To ask for bread is to ask to be filled by God, to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Bread is asking for the gifts only the Spirit can give us. It is asking for Him to change our response to Him–to center on God, to align ourselves with what He wants, to desire that His name is glorified, to remind us of our work here on earth.
