I Samuel 8 – The people of God had made up their mind–we don’t want God as our king; we want what other nations have–a human king. Samuel told them of God’s warnings: This king will claim your children to fight his wars, plant his fields, run his kingdom. God allowed them to make this choice, and to face the consequences of that choice. And that choice created great loss and heartbreak.
This story can teach us today. Do we accept God’s ways as the best? Or do we trust our ways over His? Who is our King? God will always give us choice. He teaches us that we will reap what we sow. But He always goes out before us.
